Following the Meghalaya government’s order that educational institutions in the state would remain closed from Tuesday due to coronavirus threat, the NEHU hostels in Meghalaya will be shut after two days.

Meghalaya government announced that all educational institutions in the state would remain closed for an indefinite period from Tuesday.

Meghalaya health minister AL Hek in a suo moto statement in the State Legislative Assembly made this announcement on Monday.

Hek said all educational institutions in the state will remain closed from Tuesday till further notice in view of the coronavirus threat globally.

The Northeastern Hill University (NEHU) in a notification on Monday said in pursuance of the Meghalaya government order “all the classes in the academic departments of the University shall remain suspended with immediate effect” till March 31.

“All the students residing in the hostels are advised to inform in writing to their respective wardens before leaving the hostel,” the notification said.

The students have also been asked to bring a medical fitness certificate at the time of returning back to the University campus.

“Re-entry into the hostel is subject to the production of the medical fitness certificate,” it said.

Stating that the University hostels will be closed after two days, the NEHU registrar said: “The students are also advised to make their own travel arrangement within 2 days, thereafter the hostels will be closed.”

“All administrative offices will remain open for normal function of the University during this period,” the notification said.

All the scheduled seminars, workshops, and internal test have been cancelled/postponed till further order.

“Students are also requested to check the NEHU website (www.nehu.ac.in) for further communication or this regard from time to time,” it said.
