Assam: Jorhat MP Topon Kumar Gogoi tests COVID19 positive; more 1,834 patients discharged

The Jorhat Lok Sabha MP and former Assam power minister Topon Kumar Gogoi tested COVID19 positive on Wednesday.

The parliamentarian, who is also a general secretary of the Assam state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has been admitted to the Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH).

The news has been confirmed by Gogoi himself on his Facebook page.

In a Facebook post in the Assamese language, Gogoi said, “After being infected by COVID, I am currently undergoing treatment in Guwahati Medical College Hospital.”

He has asked the people, who recently came in contact with him, to undergo COVID19 test.

“Request all those, who came in contact with me in the last few days, to do COVID19 test. All should remain careful and alert by following the protocols set by the health department,” Gogoi said in the post.

Meanwhile, more 1,834 patients, who were earlier infected by COVID19, have been discharged from various hospitals or Covid care centres after their recovery on Wednesday.

Sharing the news, Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in his latest tweet on the state’s COVID19 status on Wednesday night said:  “Discharge Alert. 1834 patients discharged today.”

“Gratitude to medical team for playing a crucial role in this fight against pandemic by saving lives of many,” health minister Sarma said.

With the release of 1,834 more p[atients, the total number of patients discharged from the hospitals in Assam increased to 88,726 on Wednesday.

Assam currently has 26,227 active COVID19 active cases out of a total of 1,11,5279 positive cases.
