The health department of North Assam’s Dhemaji district has taken all precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the deadly coronavirus in the district.

The department officials have urged the denizens not to panic over the outbreak of coronavirus as there is no case reported in the district so far.

The district nodal officer of Immediate Response Team (IRT) for coronavirus, Dr Paramananda Deori on Tuesday informed that district-level workshop has already been conducted.

He also said the medical staff and other health workers in the district have been sensitized on prevention of the virus.

“The IRT members including the nodal officer of Integrated Disease Surveillance Project, Dr LN Deori and deputy superintendent Dr Binod Bora are constantly monitoring the situation,” said Dr Paramananda Deori.

“We have issued an instruction to the civil hospital, CHCs and PHC authorities to hold awareness meetings on coronavirus at their levels and sensitize the MPWs and village level health activists for its prevention,” said Dr Deori.

He, however, said no coronavirus case has been reported in the district so far.

The superintendent of the Dhemaji civil hospital, Dr Jugen Das, said he has made arrangements for health check-up of suspected coronavirus cases in the hospital.

As a precautionary measure, isolation ward and diagnostic laboratory for coronavirus patient have already been set up in the hospital while necessary steps have been taken to refer any patient to the Assam Medical College & Hospital if needed.

On the other hand, Jonai sub-divisional medical officer (SDMO), Dr Kishore Kr Kaman, also informed that there was no suspected coronavirus case found in the area.

The SDMO following a directive from the joint director of health services conducted an awareness meeting at Jonai Block PHC and sensitized the nurses, MPWs, ASHAs, Anganwadi workers and supervisors to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

“The village level health activists have been asked to keep a sharp vigil on the situation and report the authority if there is any person coming from South Indian states with health problems,” Dr Kaman said.

The district health department also urged the people not to panic over the outbreak of coronavirus.

The common people have been asked to take precautions and maintain certain hygiene to prevent coronavirus infection.

The medical officers of the district suggested the people go for proper health check-up if someone is suffering from cold, cough and fever with complications.
