A 27-year-old student from Assam’s Baksa district, who recently returned from Israel, tested negative for COVID19 on Saturday.

Sensation prevailed when the youth from Uporkhuti village under Tamulpur sub-division in Baksa district along the Indo-Bhutan border, voluntarily sought to undergo tests for COVID19.

According to the family members of the student, he has been staying in Israel for higher studies after completing his PhD from IIT Guwahati.

With the health crisis caused by the epidemic spread of COVID19 globally, the youth returned from Israel along with another Indian student, who hails from Uttar Pradesh.

They arrived in India on March 22, 2020.

The Assam student reached his residence at Uparkhuti Village in Baksa on March 24 and he wisely kept himself isolated at his own residence.

On Saturday morning when the Assam student received information through SMS that the UP student tested positive for COVID19, he got afraid and immediately communicated with the health department of Baksa district seeking examination for the virus.

“On being intimated, a team from Naokata PHC rushed to his home and after primary investigation and taking his travel history, the student was sent to Gauhati Medical College & Hospital (GMCH) for proper and adequate investigations,” sources said.

The student informed that he was also suffering from fever, cold and cough since Friday.

“While the student reached GMCH, a team of expert doctors and medical staff started examination and investigation. After blood tests, the student tested negative for COVID19 and he was sent back home,” sources added.
