A COVID-19 infected person from Assam’s Lakhimpur district was discharged from hospital following the testing of negative result of the disease.

A resident of Abdul Lateef Baruah Road in Ward No 11 of North Lakhimpur town was released from the Telahi Model Hospital, Panigaon on Monday afternoon after being treated and quarantined for last 16 days.

The person was discharged in presence of Assam health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma and other officials of Lakhimpur district administration.

Addressing the media at the hospital minister Dr Sarma said the person was brought to the hospital on April 4 last following the test of his blood sample on April 2.

As per protocol his blood samples were again sent to the ICMR laboratory in Lahowal, Dibrugarh on April 16 which was tested negative, the minister said.

“His subsequent test on April 17 also resulted in negative of coronavirus and after consultation with the doctors and the radiological x-rays the decision to discharge the patient has been taken,” Dr Sarma informed.

Further, the health minister announced that the person would be put in observation for 14 more days as a cured person with relaxations like taking morning walks, talking to his family by phone etc.

With the release of this person in Lakhimpur, the number of discharged patients of COVID-19 in Assam has increased to 19.

It may be mentioned that this person attended the Tablighi Jamat at Nizamuddin Markaz in Delhi and returned to North Lakhimpur in mid-March.

The health minister also informed that there were 250 testing kits for COVID-19 kept ready in Lakhimpur district and the North Lakhimpur Civil Hospital would be equipped with 50 ICU beds instead of a temporary COVID-19 hospital.

Two prominent businessmen from North Lakhimpur, Tarun Dutta and Narendra Maheswari donated Rs five lakhs to the Assam Arogya Nidhi fund on that occasion at the Telahi Model Hospital.
