Another person tested positive for COVID-19 in Meghalaya on Monday.

With this fresh COVID19 positive case, the total number of positive cases registered in Meghalaya has risen to 12 including 11 active cases and one death case.

The patient is one of the family friends of the first positive case.

Informing this on Monday night, Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma said the infected person is already in a quarantine centre in the city.

“One of the family friends of the positive patient has also been tested positive. The person is already in quarantine centre. The total number is at 12. One deceased, and other 11 are stable,” Chief minister Sangma tweeted at 11.09 pm on Monday.

Eight of the positive cases are family members of the first COVID19 patient, and two are domestic helpers.

At 7:12 pm on Monday, chief minister Sangma tweeted:  “838 samples have been sent for testing and 714 individuals have been tested negative. There are 11 positive cases in #Meghalaya out of which 10 are active. We await 113 test reports.”

Earlier, Meghalaya health minister, AL Hek said the Bethany Hospital in Shillong, where Meghalaya’s first COVID-19 positive case was detected, has been temporarily shut down to contain the further spread of the virus by shifting all the staff of the hospital to other locations.

The first positive patient, 69-year-old Dr John L Sailo Ryntathiang, who was the director of Bethany Hospital, passed away on April 15 due to complications after infection.
