Guwahati: In a shocking display of irony, a poster with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma promoting a recent “Bhumi Pujan” program has been found obstructing a traffic light at the Pibco point in Rukminigaon, Guwahati.

This incident has raised questions about the effectiveness of the government’s efforts to promote traffic safety, rules and even traffic protocols.

Despite the Assam Government and Police’s constant endeavours to enhance traffic safety and rules, this oversight has compromised the very purpose of traffic management.

The blocked traffic light has reduced visibility, posing a significant traffic risk making it difficult for some vehicles to see the light.

While other signal lights were visible, the particular light being blocked by a poster seemed to be a lack of planning and “common sense”.

The poster, which was meant to promote a government initiative, has inadvertently become a hazard, highlighting the need for more thoughtful implementation of safety measures.

Speaking on the issue, a police official on conditions of anonymity said that were not aware that the light was being blocked.

He said that they did not notice it as they usually are posted on the other side of the traffic signal.

He, however, claimed that the poster or banner may have been put up late in the night when traffic police are usually off duty on the designated signal.
