The Bokakhat Range, a new forest range attached to the Kaziranga National Park (KNP), was inaugurated on Tuesday.
The new forest range was inaugurated by the director of Kaziranga National Park, P. Sivakumar along with the divisional forest officer (DFO), Eastern Assam Wildlife Division, Rohini Ballav Saikia at a function in Kaziranga.
The inaugural function was held at the premises of the beat forest officer (BDO) located in the complex of the KNP director’s office.
After the inauguration, the 8th range under the KNP started functioning from Tuesday.
The function was also attended by the president of Assam State Journalists’ Union (ASJU), Jitu Sarma Rajkhowa, Bokakhat Press Club president Bhabananda Kalita and the forest officials.
The range will cover a forest area of 190 sq km.
Dipankara Deb has been appointed as the in-charge ranger of the new forest range, which was created by a notification in 2018.
The newly-created range will cover the forest area under the Bokakhat beat forest office of the Eastern Assam Wildlife Division and some areas under the 6th addition of the Kaziranga National Park.
Currently, Bhakte Chapori, Gabharu Chapori, Mariahola, Madarjuri, Panbari, Sishubari forest camp under the Bokakhat beat forest office and a mobile forest camp named as ‘Ganga Siloni’ have been included in the Bokakhat range.
Bokakhat Range, Bokakhat has been created by renaming and relocating the establishment of existing Northern Range, Biswanath Ghat of Eastern Assam Wildlife Division.
