Tamenglong Forest Division in Manipur along with the Rain Forest Club Tamenglong celebrated 64th Wildlife Week on Saturday.
The celebration was under the theme ‘The future of wildlife is in our hands’.
The programme was held at United Builders School premises in Tamenlong town, 150 km west of Imphal.

Divisional Forest Officer Arun R S of Tamenlong, Autonomous District Council member Poukinlung Gangmei of Khongjaron, Honorary Wildlife Warden Nehemiah Panmei of Tamenglong, Range forest officers Kh Hitler and Khogen Singh of the district Tamenlong attended the Wildlife Week celebration.
Speaking on the occasion, DFO Arun said Tamenglong district has been widely recognized in the world map because of the Amur falcon adding so we need to really conserve and protect the Amur falcon.
He also thanked the Chiulon village authority for safeguarding and protecting the Amur falcon during their sojourn in the hill district every October and November.
Assuring that maximum developmental projects from forest department will be given to the Chiulon village, he said Forest department is primarily focusing on eco-tourism initiatives such as home stay which will generate revenues for the village as well as for the Tamenglong district.
As part of the day’s programme, on-the-spot drawing competition, debate competition and wildlife quiz competition was also conducted for various categories of school students.
As part of the wildlife week, a month-long awareness campaign which includes poster campaign on protection of Amur falcon was also started at Khongjaron village where Amur falcons were satellite radio tagged last year.
A water storage tank constructed under spring shed development project which includes 1.2 km pipeline from the perennial village water source was also inaugurated at Chiulon village during the event.
