Gauhati University dean, Saurav Pran Goswami, on Friday inaugurated the two-day second Jonaki Film Festival in the university premises.
Organised by the department of communication and journalism, the film festival focuses on showcasing a wide range of films from the Northeast.
The inauguration function was attended by the director of cultural affairs department Bishnu Kamal Bora along with its secretary Madhurima Baruah Sen, GU secretary to classes Dilip Bora among others.

“A good movie not only enriches the mind and should but it also helps in bringing about a social change,” said Ankuran Dutta, HoD, department of communication and journalism.
“I wish all the success to Jonaki Film Festival,” Dutta added.
The festival, which was held for the first time in 2018, will screen 12 different films from across the northeast.
The films will be screened at the Phanidhar Dutta Memorial Hall and AT Hall in Gauhati University premises.
The main aim of the festival is to promote the ethnic language films from Northeast among the students so that they become conscious of the future prospects of the Northeast film world.
Films to be screened include Aamis, Bornodi Bhotiai, Calendar, Kaaneen, and Rima Das’s National Award-winning Bulbul Can Sing.

Mishing, another National Award-winning film by Bobby Sarmah Baruah, will also be screened at the festival.
Yarwng, the first film from Tripura to have won the National Award, will also be screened in the festival.
A cine quiz competition, short film competition, and a workshop on animation will also be organised at the festival.
The festival will end on Saturday.
