The 2nd edition of the Guwahati International Film Festival (GIFF) will kick start from Thursday with 108 films screening from 52 countries . It aims to create a bridge between the local film industry and world cinema.

The seven-day film extravaganza is being organized by the Jyoti Chitraban (Film Studio) Society in partnership with Dr Bhupen Hazarika Regional Government Film and Television Institute from October 25-31.

The film festival will see the participation of 45 foreign delegates, including eight Ambassadors from Lithuania, Myanmar, Argentina, Latvia, Estonia, Serbia, Singapore and Malaysia, and nearly 5,000 domestic movie buffs.

The film festival will also see the participation of 35 international film personalities. Around 3800 delegates have registered so far with the number increasing to 5000 is expected. A major portion of the delegates are students.

The film festival aims to create opportunities for film tourism in northeast region.

Famous filmmakers Buddhadeb Dasgupta and Shaji N Karun will be the chief guests during opening and closing ceremonies of the festival respectively.

The first film to be screened will be the National Award winning Director Jahnu Barua’s yet-to-be released Assamese film ‘Broken Window’ (Bhoga Khirikee) and the last film will be Black Crow’ (Siyah Karga) by Turkish Director Muhammet Tayfur Aydin.

The Artistic Director of GIFF informed that the main focus will be films from the ASEAN regions and 14 films from 10 countries of the ASEAN region will be screened at the festival.

Apart from the ASEAN, films from the US, the UK, Spain, France, Argentina, Poland, Hungary, Italy, Croatia, Latvia, Israel, Greece, Turkey, Iran, Bangladesh, Qatar, Portugal, Sweden, China, Germany, Denmark, Georgia, Serbia, Switzerland, Netherlands, Albania, Estonia, Lithuania, Ireland, Peru, Czech Republic, Mexico, Iceland and Denmark will also be screened.
