Bollywood actor Varun Dhawan on Saturday announced to donate an amount of Rs 55 lakh for the fight against COVID-19.
Dhawan pledged to donate Rs 30 lakh to the Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund’ (PM CARES Fund).
“I pledge to contribute 30 lakhs to the PM CARE fund. We will overcome this. Desh hai toh hum hain,” he tweeted.
He also said that he will contribute Rs 25 lakh to the Maharashtra Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to help the government to tackle the coronavirus pandemic.
“I pledge to contribute 25 lakhs to the Maharashtra CM’s relief fund. We are with you sir,” he added.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said people from all walks of life have expressed their desire to donate to India’s war against COVID19.
For that reason, a new public charitable trust – Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund (PM-CARES)- has been constituted, he added.
The primary objective of this charitable trust is to deal with any kind of emergency or distress situation, like posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, and to provide relief to the affected.
Prime Minister will be the chairman of this trust and its members include the Union defence minister, home minister and finance minister.
