Internationally acclaimed actor Adil Hussain has maintained the top spot in NDTV’s Ten Best Actors of 2017 list.
The 54-year-old Assam born actor has taken the fourth spot in the top ten list for his spectacular performance in Mukti Bhawan.
The film Mukti Bhawan is based on relationships and family written and directed by Shubhashish Bhutiani. It’s a film that follows the story of a reluctant son who must take his father to the holy city of Varanasi, where his father believes he will breathe his last and attain salvation.
Hussain’s character Rajeev is forever flailing between the pragmatic and the profound, wondering if his father’s readiness for death makes any sense at all, and also questioning whether the hotel that promises salvation is itself haunted, writes film critic Raja Sen, who has prepared the list.
Hussain sticks his stomach out and delivers an excellent, understated performance, internal and universal in the most effective way. His helplessness is a thing of grace, he says.
Actor Hussain received special mention at the National Awards for his work in the films Mukti Bhawan and Maj Rati Keteki.
Born and brought up in Western Assam’s Goalpara, this critically acclaimed actor has acted in English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Tamil, Marathi, Malayalam, Norwegian and French films.
