Digboi College conducts wildlife conservation and global health course

A career orientation course in wildlife conservation biology and global health was conducted by Department of Zoology, Digboi college. It was a two-day course conducted on December 17-18, in collaboration with Aaranyak and Digboi Forest Division.

Professor Dr Randall C Kyes from University of Washington, USA conducted the course.  Around 29 students from six different institutes like Digboi College, Margherita College, Dibru College, City College Dibrugarh, Don Bosco High Secondary School, Dibrugarh, Guu Tag Bahadur School, Tinsukia joined the two-day course.

There were seven technical sessions conducted in the two-day programme.  Topics like human-environment interface, threats to biodiversity, threats to global health, vulture conservation, line transects sampling, introduction to field study techniques and practice, primate classification and behaviour, were covered.

Aparajita Gogoi, HOD, Department of Zoology, Saibal Dev, associate professor of Zoology,  Sailendra Mohan Das, coordinator of Aaranyak attended on the first day. Another resource person, Mridu Poban Phukan of Naharkatiya delivered a motivational talk on vulture conservation.

In the practical session in the field, next day, Dr Kyes,  KN Timsina, associate professor of Digboi College,  Suman Barman of Aaranyak, and  Rajib Rudra Tariang lead the teams in the sampling sites at Dehing Patkai WLS.
