After losing precious school days for more than one month, students of the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV), Mawphlang in Meghalaya will be back to school this week.

This development came following the installation of the school’s sewage treatment plant.
The decision to re-open the school was taken during a meeting of the Meghalaya Assembly Committee on Environment on Tuesday.
The school was forced to shut down since June 26 by the Assembly Committee on Environment headed by Mawphlang MLA, S K Sun for not making its STP functional.
State education officials who were present in the meeting told the Committee that the STP has been made functional.
Education officials said that the JNV School would be re-opened after Independence Day on August 16.
During its inspection of the JNV School on June 25, the Committee found that the entire waste from the school was discharged into a stream that flows down to the Greater Shillong Water Supply Scheme (GSWSS) reservoir at Mawphlang.
The GSWSS supplies drinking water to the residents of Shillong city.
Earlier, the parents of JNV students had raised concern as the rights of their children to education was deprived which has affected their career due to the non functional of the STP.
