Assam education minister Siddhartha Bhattacharya on Wednesday said the state government has decided to withdraw the higher secondary education system from the colleges across the state.
While speaking at the 35th foundation day of the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC), Bhattacharya also said 2019 will be the last year for higher secondary education in colleges.

The topic of the 35th foundation day lecture of AHSEC was ‘Recent Trends In +2 Stage Education and Needs of Reformation’.
Bhattacharya, who was the chief guest at the ceremony, felicitated some employees of AHSEC for their various professional achievements.
He said, “How is a university running higher secondary classes which are under the control of the council? In colleges, which are the universities, the Class 11 and 12 students have to sit in examinations conducted by the council and collect certificate and mark sheets, which is discriminatory.”

The education minister also informed that a meeting was held with the Vice Chancellors of different universities in Assam where it was decided that from next year, higher secondary classes would be withdrawn from the colleges and universities of the state.
However, the minister did not make it clear where the students of the state would go for pursuing higher secondary education after clearing their Class 10 examinations.
He also lauded the employees of the AHSEC by stating that they had been instrumental in bringing a change in the education sector of the state through their hard work and dedication.
The distinguished speaker of the foundation day lecture was Neelam Sood, a professor of National University of Educational Planning and Administration (NUEPA).
NEUPA is a New Delhi based institute that emphasizes on planning, management and capacity building in education policy.
