With the launch of its operations by Bengaluru-based organisation Rapido Bike in Guwahati, the people in Guwahati will be able to avail bike ride at Rs 3 as distance charge per km.
The mobile app-based bike service in Guwahati was flagged off at the walking zone point in front of the College of Veterinary Science Playground in Khanapara by Assam Guwahati Development Department and Education Minister Siddhartha Bhattacharya.
According to information, the company offers a novel take on an age-old concept of transportation by replacing the conventional four-wheeler taxis with bikes.
The services of Rapido Bike have been widely received in South India, and the company is looking to expand its reach across the country gradually.
The main aim of the Rapido service is to provide economical, cost-effective, fuel-efficient and time-saving transport. The organisation wants to tackle the issues that commuters face due to heavy traffic conditions, especially during the morning rush hours.
The mobile app-based service offers commuters the alternative option of a bike instead of a car or public transport to navigate through traffic snarls quickly and reach your destination on time.
To avail Rapido service one has to download the Rapido mobile app and book a ride.
A rider, who is also known as a Rapido ‘Captain’ will come and pick the customer up from his or her location and drop the customer off at his or her desired destination.
The base fare will be Rs 15 plus a distance charge of Rs 3 per km.
Rapido ensures that all its Captains are legitimate owners of the bike with a valid driving license. The company also issues shower caps and helmets to all its Captains and customers and emphasises on road safety rules and regulations.
Bharath, Operations Head of Rapido, said: “The Rapido concept is based around providing economical, convenient and high-quality transport facilities for solo commuters, especially those who need to travel far or have to get somewhere quickly. It can be someone who’s late for an exam or needs to get to a hospital for an appointment or in the event of an emergency. In such cases, a bike is invariably faster than a car or a bus. However, not everyone might have a bike or know how to ride one. That’s where Rapido comes into the picture.”
“Our services are currently available in Bhubaneswar, Bopal, Indore, Hyderabad, Mysore, Gurgaon and 20 Other Cities In India,” added Bharath.
The initiative has also opened up employment opportunities. People can sign up as Captains and earn a living. Currently, many Rapido Captains in Odisha earn up to Rs. 25K a month. Rapido offers its Captains a part of the cost of the ride, along with many other benefits. It also offers Guwahati citizens the option of a faster, economical and easy-to-use commute, claimed Rapido
Rapido is currently offering introductory rates of just Rs 29 for 4 kms.
