Five days after four Deans of Dibrugarh University (DU) (in Assam) resigned from their posts, three of them withdrew their resignations on Saturday following a meeting with the Vice-Chancellor (VC) Ranjit Tamuli and representatives of the Dibrugarh University Teachers’ Association (DUTA).
The three Deans who have withdrawn their resignations are LK Nath, Dean of School of Science and Engineering, Dilip Majumdar, Dean of School of Earth, Atmospheric Science, Environment and Energy and NK Handique, Dean of School of Humanities, Social Sciences and Law.
“We decided to withdraw our resignations following a long and fruitful discussion with the VC and representatives of the DUTA. The matter has been amicably resolved and we have decided to work together keeping in mind the interests of the great institution,” said LK Nath, one among the four Deans who had tendered his resignation.
On the other hand, Ajanta B Rajkonwar, Dean of School of Commerce and Management Science is currently in Hyderabad and she is expected to withdraw her resignation once she returns.
It may be recalled that on September 24 last, the four Deans had submitted their resignation through a joint letter addressed to the VC citing “breach of confidence” and “humiliation” after an important decision was taken by the university authorities without consulting them despite them being part of a committee set up for that specific purpose.
