The first semester examination of the two year diploma course in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed) under the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) especially for the untrained in-service teachers will be held in Darrang district from Thursday to Saturday along with the rest of the State.

According to sources, the authority concerned has issued admit cards to more than 5,000 candidates from the district and they will appear in the examination at fourteen designated centres including two private institutions.

In response to the request of the authority of the NIOS, Regional Centre, Bamunimaidam, Guwahati, the Darrang district administration has made elaborate arrangement for conducting the examination in a free and fair manner and maintaining transparency as well through necessary supervision and monitoring. The principal of the District Institute of Elementary Training (DIET), Dalgaon and his staff members have been entrusted responsibility to conduct the examination.

Meanwhile, talking to Northeast Now, Madhab Sarma, principal of DIET, has assured of making all efforts to check any possible dishonest, unfair practices during the examination. He even warned the authorities of the examination centres, especially the private institutions, of strict action if found their involvement in corrupt practices.

According to an RTI reply from the NIOS, in Darrang, a total of 5665 in-service untrained teachers registered their names online for the training programme developed by the NIOS at the initiative of ministry of human resource, Government of India keeping in view of the RTE Act, 2009 and NCFTE 2010 with an aim to enable the target group to develop in them skills, competencies, attitude and understanding to make teaching and learning more effective.

It may be mentioned that several candidates and a section of coordinators of the study centres of the training programme in Darrang district have expressed doubt over holding the examination in a free and fair manner particularly in the private institutions.
