Guwahati: The Kamrup district administration has announced that for the upcoming Assam Assembly elections, voters who cannot visit polling stations, including persons with disabilities and senior citizens aged 85 and above, will be able to cast their votes from home across six legislative assembly constituencies.
This facility will be available between March 30 and April 1, 2026, giving eligible voters the chance to participate in the elections without leaving their residences.
Election teams will visit each voterโs home according to a published timetable. Citizens using this service are requested to be present at their registered addresses on the assigned dates and cooperate with the officials carrying out the voting.
The second draw of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) units was conducted today at the conference hall of the district administration office in Kamrup as part of preparations for the Assam Legislative Assembly elections, 2026.
The procedure was carried out using EMS 2.0 and was completely open and verifiable, ensuring fair allocation of voting machines to all constituencies and polling booths. Representatives from recognized national and state-level political parties were present to observe the process and maintain accountability.
The exercise was overseen by General Observers Devendra Kumar Pandey and S Bharati Dasan, along with the district administration chief and District Election Officer of Kamrup, Deba Kumar Mishra, ACS.
Returning officers from the six assembly constituencies also participated, and candidates and party representatives were actively involved in monitoring the draw. This step is part of the election process, with all Election Commission of India guidelines being followed.
The district administration official in charge said, โMaintaining transparency and equality in the election process is our top priority. This second allocation of voting machines shows our commitment to carrying out the polls in a safe, orderly, and unbiased way.โ
