Guwahati: A total of 722 candidates will contest the 2026 Assam Legislative Assembly elections following the conclusion of the nomination withdrawal process.
According to official data, 815 candidates had initially filed 1,389 nomination papers across the state’s 126 constituencies. After scrutiny, 789 candidates were found eligible to contest.
On the final day of withdrawal, 67 candidates pulled out of the race, bringing down the total number of contestants to 722.
The final candidate list sets the stage for a multi-cornered contest across Assam, with political parties now intensifying their campaign efforts ahead of the polls.
