Guwahati: The Assam Congress, acting ahead of the state Assembly elections, removed 15 party members from its ranks for six years on Sunday, March 29, citing serious breaches of party rules and anti-party behaviour.
Assam Congress chief Gaurav Gogoi approved the decision at a key stage of the stateโs election process.
The party released an official statement listing the expelled members and their respective constituencies, without specifying detailed charges.
Among those removed are Bhaskar Jyoti Baruah (Titabor), Abul Miah (Gauripur), Aftadur Ali Khan (Chenga), Tapan Das (Udharbond), Sandip Das (Katigorah), and Jahurul Islam Barbhuiya (Borkhola).
Other names on the list are Aziz Ahmed Khan (Karimganj South), Anup Kumar Das (Ram Krishna Nagar), Labaniya Boro (Boko-Chaygaon), Nitul Das (Dimoria), Girindra Kumar Bhuyan (Rangapara), Pallabi Saikia (Tezpur), Mukut Das (Raha), Biju Dowarah (Khowang), and Aynul Hoque (Dalgaon).
According to the party directive, the bans take effect immediately and will last for six years.

The expulsions followed Congress releasing its โ5 Pratishrutiโ election pledges, which include a promise to ensure justice in the Zubeen Garg case within the first 100 days of a new government.
