Flood situation remains grim in Assam’s Dhemaji district as the water level of the rivers is raising due to incessant rains in the upper reaches of Arunachal hill sites.
Surging waters of Siang, Lali, Gainandi, Simen, Gainadi, Jiyadhal and Moridhal rivers inundated new areas on Thursday creating flood havoc in several areas.
As many as 80,219 population in 236 villages have been affected in the second wave of flash flood in the district so far.

Flood water also submerged 5,029 hectares of standing crop, besides damaging many rural roads and horticulture gardens.
One 40-year-old Dipen Bora of Moridhal Hanchora village drowned in flood water while he was crossing Moridhal river on Wednesday.
As such, 3 people of Bahir-Jonai village under Jonai circle have reportedly gone missing after a machine boat capsized in turbulent Siang river on Tuesday.
Though the district administration has not yet opened any relief camp, yet it started distribution of food and other support to the flood affected people.
The district administration of Dhemaji on Thursday distributed about 463.26 quintals of rice, 80.84 quintals of dal and 24.24 quintals of salt in the affected areas under Gogamukh revenue circle.
The district administration also distributed 1,975 tarpaulins in the affected areas under the Jonai revenue circle.
The water level in Siang river is flowing close to the danger level at Pasighat in Arunachal Pradesh creating flood fury in lower parts of Mebo sub-division.
The Brahmaputra river is also flowing above the danger mark at Panbari and Sissikolghar in Dhemaji district on Thursday evening.
The rising water level of the Brahmaputra is posing serious threat to Lakhimpur and Majuli districts, according to the water resource department.
