The Assam government has extended the special interest subvention scheme ‘Apon Ghar’ till March 31, 2020.

The aim of ‘Apon Ghar’ is to provide housing loan to the regular state government employees through the State Bank of India (SBI).

Assam finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed that a total of 20,287 beneficiaries have availed Rs 2,395.10 crore loan under the scheme till now.

Sarma stated on his official Twitter handle, “I am glad to share that special interest subvention scheme #AponGhar for availing of housing loan by government employees has been extended till March 31, 2020 on the prevailing terms. A total of 20287 beneficiaries have availed Re 2395.10 cr loan so far. @PMOIndia @mygovassam”.

The housing loan scheme of the state government was launched in March 2017.

Under the scheme, an eligible person can avail a loan amount of maximum Rs 15 lakh.

However, a person will be eligible for the scheme only if he is above 21 years and has been employed in any of the state government departments for a period of five years or more.

The notification, issued by Samir Sinha, principal secretary to the finance department, Assam, read as: “In order to facilitate availing Housing Loan by regular State Government employees, the Governor of Assam is pleased to extend the interest Subvention Scheme “APON GHAR” for one more year, that is , till 31st March, 2020 w.e.f. 01.04-2019.”
