The Capital police led by superintendent of police (SP) Tumme Amo and officer-in-charge of Naharlagun police station on Friday arrested an alleged fraudster.
The woman fraudster has been identified as 28-year-old M Kamduk, whom is also known as ‘Murgi Bacha’.
The SP said that the woman, who is the daughter of a retired sub-inspector of police, has been cheating people pretending to be his stepsister.
“She had promised one Vishnu Nabam to make his brother-in-law clear the written examination for recruitment of police constables in lieu of Rs. 50,000 to be paid in advance and Rs. 2 lakh later,” Amo said.
As per an FIR, registered by Nabam on Friday, the woman had called him on May 29 and asked him to meet her at Bosch Servicing Centre, Nirjuli. He went there with his wife and his brother-in-law and met the girl in the manager’s chamber.
The woman introduced herself as the Capital SP’s youngest stepsister, claimed to be very close to Amo’s wife and that she has been assigned to collect the advance Rs 50,000.
As per the woman’s statement, Nabam became suspicious as he knew Amo personally and also as the brother-in-law of a Nabam clan member. He then consulted his brother, Yupia DSO Nabam Kiron, who advised him to meet the Capital SP personally.
The complainant met Amo who told him that he has no stepsister and advised him to lodge the FIR. The complaint was accordingly lodged at the Naharlagun Police State and the woman was arrested during the investigation.
Accordingly, he lodged an FIR at Naharlagun Police Station and during the investigation, the lady was arrested today.
Amo said that the fraudster confessed that she had posed as his stepsister to cheat others, though she has never met the SP or was related to him.
“She did her diploma in architecture and has been unemployed. She was involved in cheating cases earlier too. t is suspected that she has collected cash from a few persons,” he said.
The SP has urged the people not to fall prey to such cheats as the Police department is known for its fair and transparent recruitment. Moreover, SSB will be conducting the recruitment from this time onward and police will be giving only logistic supports to SSB.
“The answer sheets will be OMR sheets and will be evaluated by computers. There is no scope for manipulation or any favour,” he added.
