Newly elected legislator from Selsella constituency, Ferlin CA Sangma will take oath in on Wednesday. The swearing in ceremony will be held at the Speaker’s chamber at Khyndai Lad here at 2 pm.
Ferlin, who was fielded by the National People’s Party (NPP), defeated Congress candidate, June Eliana R. Marak by a margin of 4,369 votes in the bye election to Selsella Assembly constituency held on April 11.
Ferlin’s victory helped the ruling NPP to emerge as the single largest party in the 60-member Assembly.
The bye-election to Selsella Assembly constituency was necessitated following the demise of sitting Congress MLA and former minister Clement R Marak, the husband of June Eliana.
Ferlin polled 15,781 votes while June got 11,412 votes.
The NPP is leading the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government with the support of seven legislators of the United Democratic Party (UDP), four legislators of the People’s Democratic Front (PDF), two legislators of the BJP, two legislators of the Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP), one legislator of the NCP, and three independent MLAs.
