Condemning the purported continued attack on the NSCN (K) by the Tatmadaw, the federation, in a release issued by its general secretary Shikuto Zalipu and media secretary Akhu Naga, said the offensive has created a war-like situation, risking and affecting the lives of Nagas living in the Naga region of Myanmar.

It said the alleged atrocities carried out against the Nagas by the Myanmar military, bombing the areas near Chen Hoyat village and creating havoc in the villages were a matter of serious concern.

“Unwarranted and arbitrary sanctions, fund cuts and disruption of essential supplies to the people have been imposed at the behest of the military, which has caused untold misery and suffering to the people especially the children,” the gaon burhas (village chiefs) said.

The federation expressed surprise that the offensive operation is being carried out when the NSCN (K) was still under the ceasefire agreement, signed in 2012, with the Myanmar government.

“Such act of treason must be condemned by one and all including the International organisations,” the federation said.

The village chiefs affirmed, “The Nagas are living in their God’s given land either in Myanmar or India. They are aboriginal people of the land. No outside forces should even think to invade forcibly.”

They asserted that the Nagas are one irrespective of geographical boundaries and that they are united to protect “our Naga nation and our political right”.

The federation has also strongly condemned the ‘gruesome killing’ of Arunachal Pradesh MLA Tirong Aboh, his son and nine others in an ambush by suspected militants in Tirap district of of Arunachal Pradesh on May 21 last.

“No amount of justification can suffice such cowardice act and outrageous offence,” it said.

The federation appealed to the authority concerned to unearth the fact, specify and punish the culprits as per the law.

The Wakching Area Youth Association has also strongly condemned the firing and bombing activities by Myanmar military in the civilian areas.

Association’s president Yonglong K Konyak and general secretary Omtick E Konyak said the weeklong military offensive has gravely affected the lives of villagers.

The association urged the ‘three warring parties’ to immediately cease firing and bombing activities and restore normalcy in the area.
