In their relentless efforts against drugs, the Assam Rifles was able to recover a huge amount of Doda post (poppy husk) from a village in Ukhrul district of Manipur.

The Assam Rifles, which is a historic para-military force, also known as the ‘Sentinels of the North East’, also apprehended four individuals for the possession of the poppy husk.

A team of Assam Riles on a tip-off conducted an operation in Litan village of Manipur’s Ukhrul district and recovered the poppy husk from the village.

The market value of the recovered Doda post or poppy husk, weighing 2,100 kg, has been estimated at Rs 1 crore.

It has been learnt that the Assam Rifles later handed over the individuals along with the recovered poppy husk to the police for further investigation.

Informing about the recovery and apprehension of the individuals, the Eastern Command of the Army on its official Twitter handle on Tuesday stated: “AR in its relentless pursuit against drugs, recovered 2100 Kg of Doda Post (Poppy husk) worth Rs 1 Cr from Litan village of Ukhrul district of Manipur on 25 Mar. The indls (sic) along with recovered items have been handed to Police for further investigations.”

Shangshak Battalion of Assam Rifles recently nabbed an alleged drug peddler near Mahadev Camp on National Highway-202.

The individual was reportedly carrying 7 kg of processed opium on his motorcycle worth around Rs 7 lakh in the open market as claimed by Assam Rifles (South) in a press release.

The nabbed individual was identified as 26-year-old Hegin Baite, who is a resident of New Saibol in Saikul. He was booked at Litan Police Station for further proceedings.
