In a big success for the police in the Sidli minor rape and murder case in Chirang district of Assam, the main accused has been apprehended on Thursday.

The accused who was reported to have fled from the district was apprehended in Dhemaji district.

The accused identified as one Paniya Sutradhar and aged around 27 years had reportedly fled on March 15 last from Sidli.

A resident of Numalpur Sidli in Chirang, the accused had taken shelter at a friend’s place in Dhemaji district.

He was apprehended by Dhemaji Police and later handed him over to Chirang Police.

The accused was trying to flee to Kerala according to the information received by the police.

Later he was brought to Chirang.

The accused Paniya sutradhar was on Thursday presented before the court and taken into police custody for further investigation.

According to police, the accused has confessed to his crime.
