The Darrang police in a significant achievement in their ongoing counter-poaching operation nabbed a hardcore poacher hailing from Manipur and recovered a.303 rifle and several rounds of ammunition from his
possession.

Acting on a tip off, a team of police of Silbori Police Outpost under Dalgaon Police Station in Darrang district on Monday midnight laid an ambush at Bejimari village along river Dhansiri adjacent to Orang National Park and Tiger Reserve.

The ambush party challenged a group of three poachers in which a poacher was nabbed, said police.

The arrested poacher has been identified as 30-year-old Sola Guite, son of Khaia Guite of New Lamkha
village under Jhehanglamka Police Station of Churachandpur district in
Manipur.

However, two other poachers managed to escape from the spot taking advantage of darkness.

A bag full of clothes, medicines and other items were also recovered from the possession of the nabbed poacher.

During preliminary interrogation by police it has reportedly come to light that Sola Guite is a very notorious poacher and has killed rhinos earlier in Kaziranga National Park (KNP) as well.

Few days back, Sola Guite allegedly made a futile attempt to kill a rhino in Agaratali
range of Kaziranga National Park, police further claimed.
