Indian Army in continuation with its efforts to thwart the nefarious designs of ULFA (I) and other subversive elements in Tinsukia district, rescued an innocent civilian from the clutches of kidnappers who claimed to have been working for ULFA (I).

On Tuesday morning, troops of Dao division successfully rescued a civilian namely Khemraj Chetri, a resident of Dhekliajan, Digboi and also apprehended two of the five kidnappers involved in the kidnapping.

Khemraj Chetri was kidnapped from Hilaguri Sapori area of Sadia on the evening of December 15. Kidnappers had placed a ransom demand of Rs 11 lakh for release of Khemraj Chetri.

Army in coordination with Sadiya Police launched a 48-hour long operation in the areas of Bogribari, Hilaguri and Tengapani for rescue of Khemraj Chetri.

On Monday evening, the Army nabbed two kidnappers later identified as Jayanto Dutta, (23) and Anant Gowala (19).

Based on the information provided by these two, Khemraj Chetri was rescued from a house in village Mojbari of Suru Dirak before the kidnappers could harm him.

As per initial interrogation, identities of four of the five kidnappers have been revealed as Surjya Moran alias Mukti Asom,  Dhun Rajakhowa,  Jayanto Dutta and Anant Gawala.

“The identity of the fifth kidnapper is yet to be ascertained. Surjya Moran is believed to be the mastermind of the kidnapping. He was associated with ULFA (I) in past. The search operations for the remaining three kidnappers are continuing,” an Army press release stated.
