The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged as overall winner in Panchayat polls in Lakhimpur as counting of ballots finally came to an end on Friday morning.
In the final tally announced by Lakhimpur district election authority, the BJP won 10 ZPCs out of 14.
The remaining 4 ZPCs were won by the Congress. BJP won Kadam, Bogeenadi, Lakhimpur, Telahi, Nowboicha, Pohumora, Gabharu, Kherajkhat, Narayanpur and Dholpur-Shimoluguri ZPCs of Lakhimpur district.
The ZPCs won by the Congress are Bihpuria, Pabho, Somdiri and Ujjwalpur.
In the election to the 60 Gaon Panchayat Presidents both the BJP and the Congress shared honours as the former bagged 30 seats while the later got 25 seats respectively.
The AIUDF and Sanmilita Gana Shakti won two seats each while the Asom Gana Parishad managed to win only one Gaon Panchayat President posts.
The BJP also won 38 Anchalik Panchayat Members posts out of 60 in this Panchayat poll in Lakhimpur district. The Congress got 17 posts while AIUDF and Sanmilita Gana Shakti declared winner in 2 posts each. The AGP again fared miserably winning only one post.
In 600 Ward Member election poll was held for 590 members in which the BJP got 293 posts followed by 196 by the Congress. AGP won 38 posts followed by Independent candidates wining 23 posts.
The Sanmilita Gana Sahakti got 22 Ward posts followed by 13 posts by the AIUDF. The SUCI and Voters Party of India also managed to win 2 posts each in this category followed by 1 seat by CPI.
