Hiphei thanked his deputy for standing by him during the Assembly proceedings and wished him a bright future.

R Lalrinawma too, told Hiphei that he was sad to see him go and wished the best for his future politics endeavour.

Hiphei is the most veteran among all the present sitting MLAs in the Mizoram Assembly. He was elected to the Rajya Sabha, for two terms, from 1990 to 1996 and from 1996 to 2002, as a member of the Indian National Congress.

Hiphei was elected from Palak seat in Siaha district defeating president of the Maraland Democratic Party (MDF) P Thawlla in the 2013 Mizoram State Assembly election.

Hiphei also submitted his resignation from his legislator’s post and said that he would resign from the Congress party too.

“After I tender my resignation from the Congress party, I will join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP),” Hiphei said.

Hiphei, an MLA elect from Palak constituency in Siaha district was nominated by the All India Congress Committee (AICC) to contest the polls from his constituency.

However political upheaval in the Mara Autonomous District Council (MADC) has created a dizzy in the Congress Bhavan and had placed KT Rokhaw as their official candidate.

The Mizoram BJP is yet to name its candidate for Palak constituency.  It is likely that the BJP will hand the constituency’s ticket to Hiphei.
