With Tripura becoming the latest BJP ruled states in the country to join the loop of statue race and planning to pierce the skyline by installing statue of the last King of Tripura Maharaja Bir Bikram Manikya, the head of the royal family of Tripura, Pradyot Manikya Deb Barman, on Thursday said government should instead spend the money for students.

“instead of spending 100s of crores 4 statues why not start scholarship under Maharaja’s name 4 our students with the same money n include some of our history in text books. Am sure if he was alive he would be happier if initiative like this was introduced than making statues,” Pradyot Manikya tweeted.

After taking an initiative to rename the Agartala Airport after the state’s last ruler Maharaja Bir Bikram, the BJP formed a new committee in the month of September under the banner ‘Statue of Unity Tripura MBB Memorial’ to build the statue.

The Tripura government has decided to install a bronze statue of Maharaja Bir Bikram. This will be 184 feet high and will be placed at Malancha Niwas.

Details of the 184 kings would be showcased in front of the statue. In daytime, it would be open for the visitors and in night, lighting arrangement would be there.
