A two-day workshop on faith based leaders meet on climate policy is underway in Imphal after it was formally inaugurated at the Diocesan Social Service Society (DSSS) hall at Mantripukhuri in Imphal on Thursday.
Around 50 faith based leaders representing different Christian inter-denominations based in Manipur participated in the two day workshop which was organised by state climate change cell, environment department in association with the Manipur forum for sustainable mountain development.
Prof N Mohendro Singh (Retd), advisor, state climate change, Manipur and former member steering committee, North Eastern Region Vision 2020, DoNER, Government of India and Director Dr Y Nabachandra Singh of State Environment Department attended the inaugural function of the workshop.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Mohendro reiterated the idea of ‘think globally and act locally’ in dealing with the climate change issues while Director Environment Nabachandra sought help and cooperation from the participants in framing a better and comprehensive state action plan on climate change version.
Fr Anthony, Director DSSS and Rev T Karang Maram of Manipur Baptist Convention (MBC) also spoke on the occasion.
In his inaugural note, deputy director Dr T Brajakumar Singh said, the main objective of the workshop is to work to gather and deliberate on the existing policies on climate change and environment in one platform to integrate the strategies into state action plan on climate change version II.
Interestingly environment and climate policy of some faith based organizations in the State covers more than a thousand fellowship churches under many associations having lakhs of members.
In the technical session, Dr Brajakumar also made a presentation on climate change in Manipur while Fr Anthony, director DSSS and Rev T Karang Maram of MBC attended as panelists. The workshop concludes on Friday.
