Imphal: A patrol team of Manipur’s Eastern Command Naga Village Guard (NVG-EC) came under attack by suspected Kuki National Army-Burma (KNA-B) militants and Village Volunteers of Eastern Zone (VVEZ) near Huimin Thana along the Indo-Myanmar border on Thursday afternoon.

According to the NVG-EC Media Cell on Friday, the attack took place around 4:30 pm during a routine patrol.

The patrol team returned fire in self-defence and repelled the attackers after a gunfight lasting about an hour.

A civilian defence volunteer was seriously injured and taken to Kamjong District Hospital with help from local residents.

The attackers also reportedly suffered casualties, though the number has not been confirmed.

The organisation said the ambush was part of an ongoing campaign against Tangkhul Naga border villages. It traced the violence to an incident on May 7, 2026, which affected Z. Choro, Wanglee and Namlee.

The group also alleged that combined KNA-B and VVEZ forces killed four villagers at Pilong on September 24 and two civilians at Ningchou on October 10.

The NVG-EC criticised government authorities for failing to protect border residents amid escalating violence. It said the violence had claimed six Naga civilian lives and caused extensive property damage.

The organisation warned against further incursions and said it remained committed to defending Naga territory and identity.

It also called on Naga youths to remain united in the face of what it described as a growing threat to the community.
