Dimapur: The State Crime Police Station (SCPS), Nagaland, has registered an FIR following a written complaint alleging that a forest official from the Wildlife Division in Dimapur and others demanded Rs 1 lakh from Vezhoto Hesuh to secure his release from detention.

The Wildlife Crime Control Unit of the Wildlife Division, Dimapur, detained Hesuh in September over photographs and videos of animals uploaded to his Facebook page.

In a release on Friday, PRO, PHQ, Nagaland, said Dimapur police first conducted a preliminary inquiry following the complaint, which alleged that no written notice, receipt, challan or other lawful document was provided to justify the demand.

During the inquiry, statements were recorded and an audio recording was recovered, the release said.

A case was subsequently registered at the SCPS under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Further investigation, including a forensic examination of the audio recording, has been sought to establish the facts.

Police said the allegations remain under investigation.
