Dimapur: Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav on Wednesday stressed the need for better road connectivity to Myanmar, which borders the state’s Meluri district.
He said better infrastructure would improve access to markets and essential services and create new opportunities for trade, tourism and economic activity.
Yadav also outlined the potential of the International Trade Centre at Avakhung to promote cross-border trade and strengthen connectivity with Southeast Asia under the Government of Indiaโs Act East Policy.
He made these remarks at a meeting with the Meluri district administration, heads of departmental offices, village council representatives and other dignitaries at the Meluri Village Council hall during his visit to the district.
Yadav further underscored the need to harness Meluriโs mineral resources, tourism potential, agriculture and horticulture for sustainable economic growth while ensuring environmental protection and safeguarding the interests of local communities.
He also stressed the importance of strengthening education, healthcare, drinking water, electricity and digital connectivity to improve the quality of life of the people.
Calling for coordinated efforts, he urged government departments to work with urgency and vision while encouraging the people of Meluri to actively participate in the districtโs development.
He expressed confidence that Meluri, as Nagalandโs youngest district, could emerge as a model border district that is peaceful, connected, environmentally responsible and economically vibrant, contributing to Nagalandโs progress and Indiaโs engagement with Southeast Asia.
