Dimapur: Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav on Thursday said the historic agreement for the creation of the Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority (FNTA), comprising six districts of eastern Nagaland, would open new avenues for inclusive development, stronger institutions, better infrastructure and greater opportunities for the people of the region.

The agreement was signed between the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO), the Centre and the Nagaland government in New Delhi on February 5.

The Nagaland Assembly passed the FNTA Bill 2026 on September 3, incorporating new administrative arrangements and fulfilling a long-standing aspiration for greater development and empowerment in eastern Nagaland.

Yadav described the agreement as an important milestone for eastern Nagaland, reflecting the importance of dialogue, mutual understanding and democratic engagement in addressing the aspirations and developmental needs of the people.

He said this at an interactive session with department officials and civil society members at the Tuensang DCโ€™s conference hall during his visit to the district, which falls under eastern Nagaland.

Stating that Tuensang occupies a very important place in the history of Nagaland, Yadav said the people of the district have always demonstrated remarkable courage, resilience, hard work and community spirit despite geographical and infrastructural challenges.

Saying that his visit to the district was important, he added that governance becomes more meaningful when constitutional institutions remain connected with the people at the grassroots level.

Yadav called for collective participation and cooperation between the government and the people for good governance and equitable development in the district.
