Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh has urged Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari to expedite work on National Highway-37 and National Highway-2 and approve key infrastructure projects in the state.
During a meeting at Gadkariโs official residence in New Delhi on Thursday, Singh stressed the need to complete upgrades on NH-37 (Imphal-Silchar) and NH-2 (Imphal-Dimapur) during the current working season to ease commuter hardships.
He also sought the immediate commencement of construction on the Shangshak-Tengnoupal Highway along the Manipur-Myanmar border and approval for a proposed elevated highway in Imphal.
Gadkari said the Imphal elevated highway project remains under consideration by the ministry. He assured the state delegation that the infrastructure concerns raised during the meeting would be addressed and that the Centre would extend assistance to improve Manipurโs road network.
The meeting follows steps taken earlier this year to resolve land compensation issues that had delayed road projects. The Manipur Cabinet cleared measures to address the disputes, paving the way for work on NH-37 in Noney district to begin.
Disputes along the Imphal-Dimapur route in Kangpokpi district were also settled through a dedicated state package, while discussions with stakeholders were initiated to resolve pending land issues along the Imphal-Ukhrul-Jessami Highway.
