Guwahati: Four Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel, including two assistant sub-inspectors (ASIs), were injured in an accidental blast during the disposal of unserviceable explosives near a security camp in Chhattisgarhโ€™s Sukma district on Thursday.

The incident occurred near Bodrajpadar Nala, around 200 metres from the CRPFโ€™s Elarmadgu camp, while an Ammunition Technical Team (ATT) was carrying out the disposal operation, police said.

According to a police statement, the team had arrived from Jagdalpur at the 50th Battalion CRPF camp to inspect security camps in the Konta range and safely dispose of unserviceable and leftover explosives stored in the area.

During the operation, which was being conducted in accordance with prescribed safety protocols, a fragment of an explosive device accidentally flew towards a nearby area and detonated, injuring four personnel.

The injured were identified as ASI M K Tiwari of the ATT, ASI Aneesh Khan of the 50th Battalion CRPF, Inspector Amarnath Mishra of the ATT, and Head Constable Kuldeep Raj of the 50th Battalion CRPF.

Tiwari and Khan sustained serious injuries, while Mishra and Raj suffered minor injuries, the police statement said.

All four personnel were given first aid immediately and shifted to the government hospital in Konta, where they were undergoing treatment. Arrangements were being made to refer the two seriously injured personnel to a higher medical facility, if required, police said.
