Guwahati: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday, September 18, 2026, allotted fresh names and symbols to the two factions of the All India Trinamool Congress ahead of the West Bengal Assembly bypolls.
The Mamata Banerjee-led faction was allotted the name ‘Mamata All India Trinamool Congress’ and the ‘football player’ symbol.
The Arup Roy-led faction was allotted the name ‘Democratic Trinamool Congress’ and the ‘envelope’ symbol.
The ECI had on Thursday, September 17, barred both factions from using the party’s existing name and symbol in the Assembly bypolls to Nandigram and Rejinagar, scheduled for October 6.
Following the directive, both factions submitted alternative names and symbols to the Commission.
