Guwahati: Assam has achieved its highest-ever voter participation in the current Assembly election, with turnout reaching 85.38%, according to the Election Commission of India.

This figure has gone past the earlier peak of 84.67% recorded during the 2016 polls.

The development reflects a notable rise in electoral participation across the state, with voters showing strong engagement in different constituencies.

Election officials said the consistent increase indicates growing confidence among citizens in the democratic system.

Women voters played a key role in this election, recording a participation rate of 85.96%, slightly above the 84.80% turnout among men. This continues the pattern of higher female voter engagement compared to male voters in recent elections.

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar termed the turnout a significant reflection of democratic strength and congratulated the people of Assam for their active involvement in the electoral process.

With this performance, Assam has emerged as one of the leading states in voter turnout in recent Assembly elections across the country.
