Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh chaired a high-level security coordination meeting at the Cabinet Hall on Thursday to review the state’s prevailing law and order situation.
The deliberations focused on implementing stringent measures to maintain peace, identifying newly vulnerable areas, and strategising potential security personnel deployments.
The meeting was attended by key state officials and security chiefs, including Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam, Chief Secretary Rajeev Singh Thakur, Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh, and Manipur DGP Mukesh Singh.
Senior military leadership from the Assam Rifles and CRPF were also present.
Concurrently, joint forces comprising the Jiribam District Police, CRPF, and Assam Rifles continued an extensive area-domination operation along the Barak-Jiri river axis, covering the villages of Gilgal, Baiboni, Latingkhal, and Muolzol.
Officials confirmed that the strategic deployments successfully pre-empted further escalation following recent unprovoked firing on civilians by armed miscreants.
In tandem with these operations, counter-insurgency and weapon recovery drives yielded significant results within the last 24 hours.
A combined team of Imphal West commandos and the 33 Assam Rifles apprehended Huidrom Pritam Singh, 45, a member of the proscribed RPF/PLA, from Takyelkhongbal Pongshubam Leikai.
In Thoubal district, a joint operation by the Heirok Police Station and the 10th Battalion BSF led to the recovery of a double-barrel breech-loading (DBBL) gun, a country-made rifle with a magazine, and 20 live rounds of 5.56 mm ammunition from the Uyok Ching Mamang area.
