Dibrugarh: Security forces apprehended five Myanmar nationals, including two women and three men, in Arunachal Pradesh’s Changlang district on Saturday.
All the individuals were handed over to the police for further documentation and proceedings.
Changlang district shares a major part of its boundary with Myanmar.
They have been identified as Nokwang Taikhe (35), Wenchak Taikhe (21), Chaksang Taikhe (16), Wennaw Tuchi (12), and Dungeon Kachik (15).
“Five Myanmar nationals were apprehended in Changlang on Saturday. We have started our interrogation,” said an official.
Changlang has emerged as a new route for the illegal drug trade, and a huge quantity of contraband items was transported through this route because it shares its boundary with Myanmar.
Recently, the 21 Assam Rifles, along with the Arunachal Pradesh Police, apprehended two Myanmar nationals near Nongkey Village under Nampong police station in Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh.
The team also recovered substances suspected to be brown sugar weighing 130.09 grams, which is worth Rs 26 lakh in the international market.
