Aizawl: Mizoram is aiming to emerge as India’s “Silk Capital” and “Winter Capital”, Chief Minister Lalduhoma said on Thursday, outlining the state government’s economic and development priorities during a review of departmental activities in Serchhip district.
Addressing officials at the DC Conference Hall in Serchhip, Lalduhoma said Mizoram had already earned recognition as the “Ginger Capital of India” and was now looking to expand opportunities in silk production and winter tourism to strengthen the state’s economy.
He also announced plans to launch the CM Blue Mission and develop Mizoram as a digitally advanced state.
The Chief Minister said the state’s “Transformed Mizoram 2047” vision was aligned with the Centre’s “Viksit Bharat 2047” initiative. Mizoram currently contributes around 0.1 per cent to the country’s GDP, and the government aims to increase its share to one per cent, he said.
Lalduhoma stressed the need for greater coordination and convergence among government departments to achieve the state’s development targets. He also called on Serchhip district to work towards becoming a model district through coordinated implementation of development programmes and projects.
The meeting, described as the first district-level exercise of its kind in Mizoram, allowed officials to directly raise concerns and discuss challenges in implementing government programmes with the Chief Minister.
Lalduhoma said similar meetings would be organised in other districts.
Officials from 43 government offices in Serchhip district participated in the meeting, where they reviewed ongoing projects, development plans, implementation bottlenecks and proposed initiatives.
Measures to improve interdepartmental coordination and address implementation-related difficulties were also discussed, officials said.
