Aizwal: Authorities on Monday destroyed narcotic drugs worth Rs. 70.70 lakh that had been seized by Serchhip Police in seven cases registered during the 2025-26 financial year.

The drug disposal exercise was carried out at the Serchhip Police Station under the supervision of Serchhip District Drugs Disposal Committee Chairman Gavit Gogna after all mandatory legal procedures were completed, officials said.

The destroyed contraband included 220 grams of heroin and 89 grams of crystal methamphetamine.

Meanwhile, Mizoram Police said they have seized narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances worth more than Rs. 414.66 crore and arrested 312 people, including 57 foreign nationals, during the first six months of 2026.

According to police data, methamphetamine accounted for the largest seizure during the period. Authorities recovered 315.903 kg of the drug, valued at Rs. 252.72 crore, leading to the arrest of 62 individuals, including 16 foreign nationals.

Police also confiscated 34.923 kg of heroin worth Rs. 69.85 crore and arrested 211 people, among them 39 foreign nationals.

Other major recoveries included 20.628 kg of crystal meth valued at Rs. 61.88 crore, 22.286 kg of morphine worth Rs. 22.29 crore, 141.492 kg of opium valued at Rs. 7.07 crore, 60.681 kg of ganja worth Rs. 30.34 lakh, 214.4 kg of codeine valued at Rs. 25.22 lakh, and 30 kg of alprazolam worth Rs. 30 lakh.

The figures highlight the scale of anti-narcotics operations carried out across Mizoram this year, with law enforcement agencies continuing their crackdown on drug trafficking in the border state.
