Digboi: Indian Oil Corporation’s Digboi Refinery on Wednesday launched IndianOil Arogyam 2.0, a CSR initiative aimed at providing doorstep healthcare services to 24 villages through two Mobile Medical Units (MMUs).
Executive Director and Refinery Head Rahul Prashant flagged off the two MMUs in the presence of Chief General Manager (Projects) N. Vinod, senior refinery officials, departmental heads, representatives of the AOCL Labour Union, the Indian Oil Officers’ Association and employees.
Each MMU will cover 12 villages, with the two units together serving 24 villages through a fixed schedule. The mobile clinics will visit two villages daily and provide primary health screening, treatment for common ailments, essential medicines, preventive healthcare counselling and disease awareness programmes.
Refinery officials said IndianOil Arogyam 2.0 is part of IndianOil’s CSR efforts in healthcare, education, sanitation, environmental conservation and community development. The initiative aims to improve preventive healthcare, support early diagnosis and increase access to medical services in remote areas.
Meanwhile, a former senior official of Digboi Refinery has urged the management to expand its CSR activities by taking up the restoration of the British-era Digboi Itabhata Hindu Cremation Ground.
The former official said the cremation ground is located next to IndianOil AOD Digboi’s New Tank Farm (NTF) and shares a boundary with one of the refinery’s key installations. Despite its historical importance and proximity to the refinery, he said the facility has remained neglected for years.
He said the cremation ground, once an important public utility for Digboi residents, now faces issues such as stagnant water, overgrown vegetation, mosquito breeding and poor sanitation.
He added that the poor condition of the facility, along with inadequate infrastructure and a shortage of firewood, has made it difficult for families performing the last rites of their loved ones.
The former official urged IndianOil AOD Digboi to include the cremation ground under a CSR initiative and develop a sustainable plan for restoration, sanitation, infrastructure improvement and maintenance.
He said such an effort would help preserve the site’s historical importance, improve public health and restore the facility’s dignity as one of Digboi’s oldest civic institutions.
The launch of IndianOil Arogyam 2.0 and the appeal for restoration of the cremation ground brought focus to two aspects of the refinery’s community-related initiatives in Digboi.
