Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced plans to set up 60 libraries across Guwahati, with one library proposed in each municipal ward, to provide dedicated spaces for students, researchers and readers.
Sarma announced the initiative in a post on X, saying the project aims to expand access to suitable spaces for learning and reading in the city.
โBook lovers in Guwahati, I have some good news for you,โ Sarma said in his post.
According to the chief minister, the state government is working on establishing one library in each of Guwahatiโs 60 municipal wards.
The proposed facilities will offer accessible spaces for reading, studying and academic work, catering to students, researchers and other readers.
The initiative is aimed at strengthening learning infrastructure in Guwahati and creating more public spaces focused on education and reading.
Sarma said the objective is to ensure that the lack of suitable spaces does not limit peopleโs access to learning opportunities.
