Guwahati: The North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) has set an ambitious target of increasing its annual revenue from around Rs 120 crore to Rs 500 crore, Chief Executive Member (CEM) Debolal Gorlosa announced on Sunday while welcoming the Assam Budget 2026-27.
Addressing a press conference at Vajpayee Bhavan in Haflong, Gorlosa described the state budget as balanced, people-centric, and focused on long-term development. He said the financial plan reflects the state government’s commitment to inclusive growth and includes significant allocations for the development of Dima Hasao district.
According to Gorlosa, the budget prioritises key sectors such as women’s empowerment, youth development, tourism, healthcare and road infrastructure, which are expected to boost the district’s economic and social progress.
Speaking about the council’s financial strategy, the NCHAC chief said efforts are underway to substantially strengthen the council’s internal revenue generation. Raising the annual revenue to Rs 500 crore, he said, would improve the council’s financial independence and reduce its dependence on external sources of funding.
He expressed confidence that stronger finances would enable the autonomous council to undertake development projects more efficiently and speed up infrastructure creation across Dima Hasao.
Reaffirming the council’s development agenda, Gorlosa said the NCHAC would accelerate the implementation of infrastructure and public welfare initiatives to ensure inclusive and sustainable growth throughout the hill district.
Haflong MLA Rupali Langthasa and BJP Dima Hasao district president Dhrity Thaosen were also present at the press conference.
